Well, I did.
In my first post back in August last year, I said I had trouble sticking with things when I start them. This isn’t true of all things, of course. I’ve done VERY well at sticking with World of Warcraft, several TV shows, my job and my marriage but none of those things required any of the following:
- Selecting a theme.
- Thinking up a title.
- Thinking up a URL.
These three things being the undoing of all my intended efforts with a blog. I’ll start one and a day later think the theme totally sucks. And why did I call it THAT of all things… Hrumph.
A number of things have happened since the last post:
- I got promoted to team lead of the interactive department of where I work (Amnesia).
- Amnesia won AdNews “Digital Agency of the Year”.
- I started jogging.
- World of Warcraft Burning Crusade was released.
- Numerous famous and infamous people died.
So here we are.
Maybe I’ll stick with it this time.
I can’t write. Really. I can’t write at all. I’m complete crap at it.
I’m complete crap at lots of things (sports, hardware, sports) but those I don’t really mind being crap at. No, I’m crap at writing but I don’t WANT to be crap at writing.
I’m not a huge fan of blogs. I think they’re the ultimate internet conceit. Sure, with the net ANYONE can create content accessible by billions of people but do they really need to? Does the ever-growing internet community REALLY need to read your emo poetry? Do they really care who you did what with when you shouldn’t have? No. Chances are, they really don’t.
This is why you are perfectly justified in not giving two craps about MY blog. Hell, I’ve already told you that I can’t write so you know it’s not going to be great. “But wait!”, you cry, “Maybe you’re so incredibly interesting your unique view and experiences will somehow illuminate the dark corners of MY sorry existence!”. Sorry. Not so much.
Don’t get me wrong, though. There are people with VERY interesting lives that writing fascinating blogs. People in incredible situations and places. People who create works enjoyed by millions, giving an insight into their craft. Yes, these are all great examples of Important Internet. Yes, but you see, I’m not anything like these people. Just to clear that up.
I’m starting this blog for two reasons:
- I have a great history of starting projects and then dropping them soon after when I lose interest.
- I need practise writing.
So there you go. Please feel free to fly by, but, by all means, don’t feel unwelcome. Not ALL my posts are going to be whiney ranting. I MAY from time to time say something worthwhile.
So, we’re ok? Good.
